The history of Intrecciato (which translates from Italian as "interwoven") began in 1975 when artisans at Bottega Veneta faced a shortage of leatherworking equipment. The solution proved simple and genius: to interweave long leather strips by hand in a criss-cross pattern, creating a three-dimensional surface from a single piece of leather. As a result, the bags gained softness and practicality without losing their utilitarian nature.

Scarcity is the engine of progress in fashion. For the same reason, the iconic orange Hermès boxes came to be.
