A real collector's item – a vintage Eisa couture dress made of black wool jersey. The dress was created by Balenciaga and marked Eisa.
Cristóbal Balenciaga opened Eisa in San Sebastian, Spain in 1917. Eisa branches were opened in Madrid (1933) and Barcelona (1935). The beginning of Spanish Civil War in 1936 caused Balenciaga to leave Spain for Paris. Eisa stores were closed during the civil war but reopened after the war ended in 1939. Eisa was a profitable business for the designer because this label had loyal customers from the Spanish aristocracy as well as American customers. Balenciaga himself operated Eisa with the help of his assistants until it was closed in 1968.
